When we were in Michigan a week and a half ago, the high points of my week were going to see Avatar in 3D (loved it) and my friend Molly's Bob Evan's birthday breakfast. It was absolutely freezing cold, and our hotel had kitchens, so there was no need to go out. I had my car there, I drove to and from work, and that was about it.
Fast forward to Monday the first, and the beginning of a two week layoff from the tour. I had been contemplating looking at super cheap condos in Cleveland for about a month. It's been so rough living out of storage and bins- I'm just over it. I want a place to stay that is mine again. I'm happy I rented out my house because it was a good financial decision, but it's been hard to not have a place to go back to. Kevin (the "friend" from a previous blog who may have moved up a bit) drove back to Cleveland with me for the week, and I went to go look at places. I was actually shocked that there were condos as cheap as they were in Shaker Heights, which is a pretty nice suburb. The biggest issue turned out to be the association fees. You can buy a condo for 60K, but then you owe a grand a month in fees. No go.
I finally found a small place that I think will work. It's right on the rapid line, and has garage parking. Two big things in my world, with being at the airport sometimes a few times a week. I have to re-do the entire thing, but it should work out just fine. At least my clothes will be back on hangers rather than folded in giant Rubbermaid containers. I close at the end of the month, and will start to remodel from the road, the best I can. The best part about this place is for sure the toilet seat. Oddly enough, it was the only thing she put in the closing contract that she wanted to take with her. ???
The rest of last week, Kevin and I just hung out at my grandfather's house (he's in Florida, where I am writing this from), visited with friends, and lived life.
I am visiting Poppy and Heidi in Lauderdale for a few days before I head to Chicago on Valentine's Day, for two weeks. I have so many friends and family in Chicago that I am looking forward to seeing. It's been a pretty mellow month. Maybe I'm getting old, or maybe I'm just over it. But I've enjoyed it.
