Other Atlanta Happenings

I managed to find some more free time in Atlanta to visit a few more places on my tourist list. I checked out the home of the woman (can't even remember her name anymore) that wrote Gone With The Wind. She actually wrote it in the house I went to- not my favorite thing I've ever done, but it was still interesting. The costumes in that movie are just unreal! (I know it's a book, but it's doubtful I will ever read it's 1,000+ pages).
Then after the Gone With The Wind house, our plan was to check out the Carter Library. But you know what? I went to the Clinton library in Little Rock, it it was just boring. So going to lunch and having a glass of wine trumped the Carter Library. My friend Marissa and I found a place as we were walking down the street, and decided to give it a go. Turns out it was a very popular gay restaurant/bar, and it was so much fun! Check out their signature dessert:
I woke up early on Saturday, in the rain and cold, to visit the MLK Jr. Historical Site. He was born in Atlanta, and they have since turned his childhood home, his grave, and the surrounding neighborhood, into a National Park. There is an amazing visitor's center that gives you the history of MLK. I honestly had a really hard time there. It takes you through the years before the Civil Rights Movement, during it, and after.... I guess that you forget as you get older what you learned in high school. It was so disturbing to me, and so recent. I found myself holding back tears during the hour I spent there. Luckily, the Park Ranger who was my tour guide for the house was fantastic, and he cheered me up. The whole thing was free because it is government run.

I'm so happy that I took what little free time I had here in Atlanta to go out and do things. It makes a world of difference, when you live like this, to get out and see it. Why else would I tour?!
